Tribe to Open 2012 Season at Maryland this Saturday

August 31st, 2012 by Will Armbruster

William and Mary will kick off the 2012 season when it plays at Maryland this Saturday at 3 p.m. The game will be broadcast by ESPN3, while fans can listen to the game live on Hometown Radio, 92.3FM The Tide and 107.9 BACHfm. Radio coverage begins with the pre-game coach’s show at 2:30 p.m., followed by the 3 p.m. kickoff. Veteran Tribe broadcaster Jay Colley leads the crew, which includes Bob Sheeran on color and Matt Ridjaneck on the sidelines.

Saturday’s contest will mark the seventh consecutive season in which W&M has squared off against an Atlantic Coast Conference opponent. The College has played well in many of those contests, as it opened the 2009 season with a 26-14 victory at Virginia and held a double-digit fourth quarter lead at North Carolina in 2010.

W&M and Maryland have met four times, with each team earning a pair of victories. Maryland claimed initial meeting, 17-0, in 1905, while W&M won back-to-back games in 1945 and 1946. The squads last played in 2006, as UM earned a 27-14 triumph in College Park, Md.
