The 3rd Annual Peninsula Pig Party benefits Lt. Mike Johnson, who died in Afghanistan in 2009.

Locals can enjoy pork barbecue while benefitting education at the 3rd Annual Peninsula Pig Party, which benefits the Mike Johnson Scholarship Foundation.

The foundation was established in memory of Lt. Mike Johnson, a Marine who died in Kunar, Afghanistan on Sept. 8, 2009. It awards financial assistance for education to individuals who, like Johnson, possess a love for the environment and its well-being, along with a strong commitment to physical fitness. Johnson was raised in Virginia Beach and was a 2006 graduate of Oregon State University.

The Peninsula Pig Party will be on Saturday, Sept. 15, from 4 to 10 p.m. at the Bourbon Street Bar & Grill at the Clarion Hotel, located at 351 York Street in Williamsburg. For $15, attendees can enjoy all-you-can-eat pig picking, starting at 4 p.m.

Live music will include Scott Varney from 4 to 7 p.m., followed by Washington, D.C. blues band Nobody’s Business from 7 to 10 p.m.

Attendees can reserve rooms for the event at the Clarion for a special rate of $29 a night by calling (757) 229-4100.
