Miss Virginia Rosemary Willis – a William and Mary student – toured the campus today on the “Tribe Choices” golf cart. She discussed tips for healthy living and handed out healthy packs with adhesive bandages, hand sanitizer and key chains.
Willis was on track to graduate from the College next spring, but is taking the academic year off as she fulfills the duties of Miss Virginia. She will represent Virginia in the Miss America pageant in January 2013.
The Chesapeake native’s platform when she won the state title this summer was “Get Moving Today for a Healthier Tomorrow.” Willis promotes exercise and physical activity as a way to improve one’s overall quality of life.
While on campus Willis participated in the College’s “Tribe Choices” program, which is sponsored by W&M’s Health Promotion Office to provide health information to students. Emblazoned with the ubiquitous “Tribe Choices” logo and driven by student volunteers as well as professional staff, the golf cart travels around campus to provide information to everyone it passes. In addition to serving as a traveling road show with healthful tips, the golf cart also transports willing students to and from class a la Discovery Channel’s “Cash Cab,” except that the W&M model is “Fast Pass to Class,” and the questions pertain to health and wellness, and the prizes promote healthful choices.
