Plan Ahead: Many Openings Sunday at Coleman Bridge

October 29th, 2011 by Kim Lenz

Virginia Department of Transportation bridge maintenance crews will have multiple openings at the George P. Coleman Memorial Bridge on Sunday, Oct. 30.

The openings will be intermittent between 7 and 11 a.m. Maritime traffic will not be able to use the passage under the bridge between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.

Motorists traveling both northbound and southbound on Route 17 over the Coleman Bridge should expect traffic stops of up to 30 minutes as the spans are opened.

These openings are part of maintenance operations. Crews will be performing work that includes changing oil in the motors, in addition to shimming and greasing bridge mechanisms.

These scheduled maintenance activities are weather dependent. VDOT will continue to update any changes to the proposed schedule as they occur.

Motorists are encouraged to visit online by clicking here, call 511 or listen to Highway Advisory Radio 610 AM or call the Traffic Information Line at 757-361-3016 for current traffic and travel information.
