WJCC Students Show Off Musical Talent In March

February 28th, 2011 by Amber Lester

The best voices in Williamsburg-James City County schools will be showing off their musical chops in two concerts this March.

On Tuesday, the combined WJCC high school orchestras and choirs will present a “Night at the Opera.” Singers and musicians from Warhill, Jamestown and Lafayette high schools will perform selections from classic operas, including “Dido and Aeneas,” “Carmen,” “Hansel and Gretel,” “Porgy and Bess,” and “Phantom of the Opera.”

The concert will be directed by orchestra directors Elizabeth Caine, Mary Dart and Marie Johnson and choral directors Elaine Johnson and Jason Dungee. It will begin at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the Warhill High School auditorium; admission is free, but donations will be accepted to support performing arts programs.

At the end of the month, the members of the fifth-grade combined chorus will perform their music festival. The choruses from each of WJCC’s nine elementary schools will present a concert with the theme, “Sing Across America,” directed by Elaine Johnson. The event will begin at 7 p.m. on March 31 at the Warhill High School Auditorium; admission is free.
