VDOT Lane Closure Forecast: Feb. 26-March 5

vdotlogoIn an effort to keep you informed, VDOT publishes the following scheduled highway lane closures that may affect traffic in Hampton Roads. These closures are subject to change due to weather conditions and other unforeseen events. Other closures may occur that do not appear on this report.

UPDATED NOTE: VDOT closes the I-264 Downtown Tunnel westbound at 7 p.m. on Friday, February 25, and will reopen the road at 5 a.m. on Monday, February 27. The City Hall entrance ramp to I-264 will be closed during the tunnel closure. Motorists can access I-464 from the Tidewater Drive on-ramp, or the Market Street on-ramp.

COLEMAN BRIDGE
Route 17 North/South – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures on the Coleman Bridge for maintenance operations including pavement marking, Tuesday, March 1, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. In the event of inclement weather, the closure will occur on Thursday, March 3, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Route 17 North – Motorists should expect a single lane closure on the Coleman Bridge for camera maintenance, Monday, February 28, through Friday, March 4, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

JAMES RIVER BRIDGE
Route 17 South – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures on the James River Bridge for beam end repair, Monday, February 28, through Friday, March 4, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sunday, February 27, through Thursday, March 3, from 6 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Route 17 North – Motorists should expect left lane closures on the James River Bridge for equipment staging, Monday, February 28, through Friday, March 4, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, February 27, through Thursday, March 3, from 8 p.m. and 5 a.m.

YORK COUNTY
I-64 West– Motorists should expect multiple lane closures at the Barlow Road overpass for overhead sign maintenance, Tuesday, March 1, from 9 to 11 a.m.

HAMPTON/NEWPORT NEWS
I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures from Mallory Street (Exit 268) to the I-464 Interchange (Exit 291) for roadway sweeping, Monday, February 28, through March 4, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

HAMPTON ROADS BRIDGE-TUNNEL
I-64 East – Motorists should expect overnight single lane closures Sunday through Thursday, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for the roadway lighting upgrade to the I-64 East Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel. Westbound traffic will not be affected and no weekend closures are planned. The project is scheduled for completion in spring 2011.

Motorists are encouraged to use I-664 Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel to avoid delays. Take Exit 264 to access I-664. Use exit 15A for Norfolk and Virginia Beach destinations. Use exit 15B for Chesapeake and Outer Banks destinations. For more project information, please visit the VDOT website.

I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect alternating, mobile lane closures for tunnel washing, Tuesday, March 1, through Thursday, March 3, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

DOWNTOWN TUNNEL
I-264 West – The Downtown Tunnel will be closed Westbound for ceiling panel removal beginning at 7 p.m. on Friday, February 25, through Monday, February 28 at 5 a.m.  The City Hall on-ramp to I-264 will be closed during the tunnel closure. Motorists can access I-464 from the Tidewater Drive on-ramp or from the Market Street on-ramp.

1-264 East/West – Motorists should expect single, mobile, alternating lane closures in the Downtown Tunnel for tunnel sweeping operations, Tuesday, March 1, and Friday, March 4, from midnight to 5 a.m.

NORFOLK
Hampton Boulevard Grading Project

Hampton Boulevard traffic continues to be temporarily detoured between Mapleshade Avenue and B Avenue. The six-lane detour will remain in place until the underpass is constructed. Project completion is scheduled for winter 2013.

I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures from the I-64 Interchange to Effingham Street, Monday, February 28, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sunday, February 27, and Thursday, March 3, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

NORFOLK/PORTSMOUTH
I-64 East – Motorists should expect multiple lane closures at HOV Reversible Roadway for overhead sign maintenance, Wednesday, March 2, through Thursday, March 3, from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m.

PORTSMOUTH
I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect multiple alternating lane closures from Greenwood Drive to Portsmouth Boulevard for overhead sign maintenance, Sunday, February 27, and Monday, February 28, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-264 East – Motorists should expect multiple alternating lane closures from Victory Boulevard to Frederick Boulevard for overhead sign maintenance, Monday, February 28, and Monday, March 1, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-264 East – Motorists should expect multiple alternating lane closures from Greenwood Drive to Des Moines Avenue for overhead sign maintenance, Monday, March 1, and Tuesday, March 2, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-264 East – Motorists should expect multiple alternating lane closures from Frederick Boulevard to Effingham Street for overhead sign maintenance, Tuesday, March 2, and Wednesday, March 3, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-264 East – Motorists should expect multiple alternating lane closures from Des Moines Avenue to Effingham Street for overhead sign maintenance, Wednesday, March 3, and Thursday, March 4, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures from the Bowers Hill Interchange to Effingham Street, Monday, February 28, through Thursday, March 3, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Thursday, March 3, 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

CHESAPEAKE/PORTSMOUTH/NORFOLK/VIRGINIA BEACH
I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures from Bowers Hill to Birdneck Road for storm drain cleaning, from Monday, February 29, through Friday, March 4, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures from Bowers Hill to Birdneck Road for roadway sweeping, from Monday, February 29, through Friday, March 4, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

CHESAPEAKE
I-64 East/West Restorative Pavement Project – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures from the Bowers Hill Interchange to the I-464 Interchange, Monday through Thursday from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. for restorative pavement maintenance work.  Work will include patching isolated concrete pavement, increasing the width of the inside shoulder and replacing two lifts of asphalt. These paving operations will continue Sunday through Thursday until the end of August 2011.

I-464 North/South – Motorists should expect mobile alternating lane closures from the I-64 Interchange, to Main Street, for overhead sign maintenance Friday, March 4, from 9 a.m. through 3 p.m.

I-464 North – Motorists should expect multiple lane closures at the I-64 Interchange for overhead sign maintenance, Tuesday, March 1, through Tuesday, March 2, from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m.

HIGH RISE BRIDGE
I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect shoulder closures before and after the High Rise Bridge for fencing and conduit and junction box installation, Monday, February 28, through Friday, March 4, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile alternating lane closures on the High Rise Bridge for bridge deck cleaning, Monday, February 28, through Friday, March 4, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

GILMERTON BRIDGE

Route 13 East/West – Motorists should expect daytime closures including flagging operations in the project work zone, stopping traffic in both directions for up to 10 minutes. Crews will replace delineators, located on the roadway, during draw bridge openings. Motorists are asked to use extreme caution in the work zone. CHESAPEAKE/VIRGINIA BEACH

I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures from Indian River Road to the I-464 Interchange for pothole repairs, Monday, February 28, and Tuesday, March 1, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. and Tuesday, March 1, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures from Dominion Boulevard the to I-264 Interchange for pothole repairs, Wednesday, March 2, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Thursday, March 3, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

VIRGINIA BEACH

Witchduck Road North/South –Motorists should expect single median lane closures from Bonney Road to the I-264 Interchange on Witchduck Road and on Bonney Road for asphalt placement and storm drainage installation, Monday, February 28, through Friday, March 4, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

I-264 West – Motorists should expect single mobile lane closures at the HOV Reversible Roadway for overhead sign maintenance, Tuesday, March 1, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

I-264 West – Motorists should expect multiple lane closures at the Witchduck Road overpass for overhead sign maintenance, Thursday, March 3, through Friday, March 4, from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m.

CHESAPEAKE/SUFFOLK
I-664 North/South – Motorists should expect single alternating lane closures from Bowers Hill to the Monitor Merrimac Memorial Bridge Tunnel for guardrail repairs, concrete patching, slab jacking and under-drain repairs. Motorists should expect ramp closures associated with these maintenance operations and be alert for detours.

COURTLAND

Southampton Parkway North/South – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures on Southampton Parkway for right turn lane construction, Monday, February 28, through Friday, March 4, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

GREENSVILLE COUNTY

Route 301 North/South – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures from the I-95 Interchange to the Sussex County line for  paving operations, Wednesday, March 2, through Friday, March 11, from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY

Route 58 North/South – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures from milepost 9.41 to Route 58 West Business, Tuesday, March 1, through Tuesday, March 15, from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
