Four Bay Rivers football players were recently named to the Associated Press (AP) all-state football team.
Poquoson linebacker Luke Hill, also the recipient of the Bay Rivers District Defensive Player of the Year award, along with teammate Dustin Edwards (offensive guard) and Grafton defensive end Dylan Stallings were awarded first team honors. Poquoson defensive back Tee McConnell was voted to the second team.
Hill, captain of the Islanders’ defensive core, notched 151 tackles, four interceptions and five sacks on the year. Edwards’ work on the front line was key for an Islander offense that averaged nearly 300 rushing yards per game.
Stallings led Grafton in most defensive categories including tackles for losses (24). He also recorded 14 sacks and over 100 tackles on the season. As a tight end in the high-powered Clippers offense, Stallings was also a late-game favorite for quarterback Joe Cibrin. He grabbed five touchdowns on roughly 500 receiving yards as both a TE/WR.
