VDOT Lane Closure Forecast: Nov. 28-Dec. 4

November 28th, 2010 by Kim Lenz

vdotlogoThe start to the holiday season is now in the “pause” phase, giving people time to get back to work and the state a chance to finish up 2010’s list of road work. That list includes a traffic pattern change on the Coleman Bridge. The following is VDOT’s scheduled highway lane closures, which may affect local traffic. The closures are subject to change due to weather conditions and other unforeseen events, and other closures may be added to the list as necessary.

For current traffic and travel information, visit the VDOT website, call 511, call the TrafficLine at 757-361-3016 or listen to 610AM.

COLEMAN BRIDGE
On Tuesday, Nov. 30, motorists traveling on Route 17 at Gloucester Point should be alert to a new traffic pattern.

VDOT is moving towards the final phase of the safety improvement project located on Route 17 at the base of the George P. Coleman Bridge.

The final phase of construction will shift southbound traffic to the west, splitting north and southbound traffic, and left turn movements will be prohibited through the work zone. The new configuration will allow crews to focus on constructing the medians and reconstructing the inside lanes in each direction. This traffic pattern will remain in effect until the project is complete in the fall of 2011.

Once the $12.6 million project is complete, there will be three lanes of traffic in each direction with dedicated left-turn lanes at the signalized intersections.
