VDOT Lane Closure Forecast: Oct. 31-Nov. 6

vdotlogoAt first glance it looks like commutes could be slower this week because of bridgework, but the good news is most of that will be done during overnight hours. VDOT says these are the scheduled highway lane closures, which are subject to change because of weather or other unforeseen events.

YORK COUNTY
I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect lane closures between Route 143 (Exit 238) and Route 143 (Exit 247) for bridge deck repair and joint reconstruction, Sunday, October 31, through Thursday, November 4, from 9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.

JAMES RIVER BRIDGE
Route 17 South – Motorists should expect multiple lane closures on the James River Bridge for bridge repair, Sunday, October 31, through Thursday, November 4, from 6 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Route 17 North – Motorists should expect multiple lane closures on the James River Bridge for equipment staging and beam end repairs, Sunday, October 31, through Thursday, November 4, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. and Monday, November 1 through Friday, November 5, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

NEWPORT NEWS/ HAMPTON
I-664 North – Motorists should expect multiple lane closures at Powhatan Parkway for overhead sign maintenance, Tuesday, November 2, and Wednesday, November 3, from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m.

I-64 West – Motorists should expect multiple lane closures between the Hampton River Bridge and the King Street overpass for overhead sign maintenance, Wednesday, November 3, and Thursday, November 4, from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m.

I-664 North/South – Motorists should expect multiple mobile lane closures between the I-64 Interchange (Exit 1) and Warwick Boulevard/35th Street (Exit 5) for pavement marking, Sunday, October 31, through Thursday, November 4, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.

HAMPTON ROADS BRIDGE-TUNNEL
I-64 East – Motorist should expect overnight single lane closures Sunday through Thursday, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for the roadway lighting upgrade to the I-64 East Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel. Westbound traffic will not be affected and no weekend closures are planned. The project is scheduled for completion in spring 2011.

Motorists are encouraged to use I-664 Monitor Merrimac Memorial Bridge Tunnel to avoid delays. Take Exit 264 to access I-664. Use exit 15A for Norfolk and Virginia Beach destinations. Use exit 15B for Chesapeake and Outer Banks destinations.

I-64 West – Motorists should expect a single lane closure through the HRBT for tunnel drain cleaning, Sunday, October 31, through Thursday, November 4, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

DOWNTOWN TUNNEL
I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile alternating lane closures in the Downtown Tunnel for tunnel sweeping, Tuesday, November 2, and Friday, November 4, from midnight to 4 a.m.

NORFOLK
I-64 East/West HOV Reversible Roadway – Motorists should expect single lane closures in the HOV Reversible Roadway for pavement marking and guardrail repairs, Monday, November 1, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures from the west side of the Berkley Bridge to Newtown Road (Exit 15) for pavement marking, Monday, November 1, through Friday, November 5, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures from City Hall Avenue to Military Highway for pavement repairs, Tuesday, November 2, through Thursday, November 4, from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m.

I-64 West – Motorists should expect a ramp closure at Northampton Boulevard. The on-ramp to I-64 West will be closed for pavement, Monday, November 1, and Tuesday, November 2, from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m.

I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile alternating lane closures from the I-264 Interchange (Exit 284) to 15th View (Exit 272) for roadway sweeping, Sunday, October 31, through Thursday, November 4, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Hampton Boulevard Grading Project
Motorists should expect a traffic shift on Hampton Boulevard onto a newly created detour road. The six-lane detour roadway was constructed as part of the Hampton Boulevard Grade Separation Project. The detour road will provide access to both NIT and NAS facilities, while maintaining the same vehicle capacity as the current Hampton Boulevard.

PORTSMOUTH
I-264 West – Motorists should expect multiple lane closures at Des Moines Avenue for overhead sign repairs, Thursday, November 4, and Friday, November 5, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

CHESAPEAKE
I-64 East/West High Rise Bridge – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures at the High Rise Bridge for bridge sweeping and drain cleaning operations, Sunday, October 31, through Thursday, November 4, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-64 East/West Restorative Pavement Project – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures from the Bowers Hill Interchange to the I-464 Interchange, Monday through Thursday from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. for restorative pavement maintenance work. Work will include patching isolated concrete pavement, increasing the width of the inside shoulder and replacing two lifts of asphalt. These paving operations will continue Sunday through Thursday until the end of August 2011.

I-64 West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures at Yadkin Road for overhead sign repairs, Tuesday, November 2, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

I-64 East – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures at Military Highway for overhead sign repairs, Tuesday, November 2, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect multiple alternating lane closures from I-264 Interchange (Exit 299) to Battlefield Boulevard (Exit 290) for guardrail repair, drainage improvements and paving operations, Sunday, October 31, through Friday, November 5, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Motorists should be alert for detours associated with on- and off-ramp closures. Motorists should also expect shoulder closures.

GILMERTON BRIDGE
Route 13 East/West – Motorists should expect an eastbound lane closure for barrier wall replacement, Wednesday, November 3, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.  Motorists should be alert for flagging operations.

During daytime hours, motorists may experience traffic delays due to flagging operations in the project work zone, stopping traffic in both directions for up to 10 minutes.

Motorists are asked to use extreme caution as work crews repair barrier walls on the traffic side of the wall.

Motorists are encouraged to use the I-64 High Rise Bridge as an alternative route to avoid delays. For more information, please visit the project website.

VIRGINIA BEACH
I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect ramp closures at Lynnhaven Parkway (Exit 19) for pavement marking and guardrail repairs, Monday, November 1, and Tuesday, November 2, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-264 East – Motorists should expect single lane closures between Birdneck Road (Exit 22) and Parks Avenue for curb repairs, Tuesday, November 2, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

I-264 East – Motorists should expect a shoulder closure between Newtown Road (Exit 15) and Witchduck Road (Exit 16) for soil test boring, Sunday, October 31, through Thursday, November 4, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile alternating lane closures at Rosemont Road (Exit 18) for pavement repair, Sunday, October 31, from 9 p.m. to midnight.

Witchduck Road North/South – Motorists should expect single median lane closures from Bonney Road to the I-264 Interchange on Witchduck Road and at Anvers Road and Witchduck Road for asphalt demolition, Monday, November 1, through Friday, November 5, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Princess Anne Road Expansion Project
Princess Anne Road East – Motorists should expect two right lane closures on Princess Anne Road, east bound, between Dam Neck Road and the Landstown Commons entrance for clearing and grading operations through the project completion, expected November 2011.

CHESAPEAKE/SUFFOLK
I-664 North/South – Motorists should expect single, alternating mobile lane closures between Bowers Hill and the Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel for concrete roadway repairs, guardrail repairs and shoulder restoration, Sunday, October 31, through Thursday, November 4, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

SUFFOLK
I-664 North – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures at Military Highway for overhead sign maintenance, Tuesday, November 2, from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m.

ISLE OF WIGHT
Route 10 East – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures from Route 258 to Route 10 Business for shoulder maintenance, Monday, November 1, through Wednesday, November 3, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Route 258 East/West – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures on Route 58 Business for road eradication activities, Monday, November 1, through Saturday, November 6, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Route 258 East/West – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures on Route58 Business for road resurfacing, Wednesday, November 3, through Friday, November 5, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Route 258 East Business – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures at the Route 32/Route 258 Interchange for pavement marking operations, Monday, November 1, through Wednesday, October 3, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY

Route 189 East/West – Motorists should be alert to a closure over the Blackwater Bridge on Route 189 for bridge maintenance from 7 a.m. on Monday, November 1, through Friday, November 5, at 5:30 p.m. Motorists should be alert for detour signs in the area.

GREENSVILLE COUNTY

Route 58 East – Motorists should expect multiple lane closures from the Brunswick County line to Route 606, Route 649, and Route 640 for shoulder repairs, Monday, November 1, through Friday, November 5, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Route 301 East – Motorists should expect multiple lane closures on Route 301 to the I-95 Interchange for shoulder repairs, Monday, November 1, through Friday, November 5, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Route 614 East – Motorists should expect multiple lane closures on Route 614 to Route 617 for shoulder repairs, Monday, November 1, through Friday, November 5, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
