Starting this week, James City County is offering pre-paid bulk trash pick up for residents for items like appliances, construction debris, and yard waste.
The county currently allows residents to purchase coupon books for $20 and then dispose of items at the county convenience center, with items requiring various numbers of booklets per large item. The new program will allow residents to pay $75 to have these items hauled from their property.
Once a resident pays for the service, the county will set up a service appointment and an employee will come by on that day between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. to remove the trash. Materials must be on the curb by 8 a.m.
No hazardous, commercial or business waste will be accepted.
The county has also recently brought back one curbside leaf collection for the year, during the month of December. Look on the county Web site to find out the schedule for each neighborhood. For bagged yard waste outside this time, residents can haul the items to the convenience center or pay for the pre-paid bulk service.
Request forms for the prepaid bulk service can be picked up at the Treasurer’s office, satellite office, all County fire stations or online. For more information, contact JCC solid waste at (757) 565-0971 or e-mail: GenServ@james-city.va.us.
