After earning a 34-14 victory at Northeastern last Saturday, the William and Mary football team moved up one spot to No. 7 in polls released by the FCS Coaches and the Sports Network this week.
With a 5-1 record, the Tribe continues its best start since 1994.
The Colonial Athletic Association is well represented in both polls, as four league teams are among the top seven. Additionally, seven teams are ranked in the Sports Network poll, while six are listed among the Coaches poll top 25.
The Tribe’s defensive unit continues to establish itself among the nation’s best, as it ranks 12th in total defense (261.83 ypg) and second in rushing defense (64.83 ypg). With 14 sacks in the last three contests, the College now ranks 10th in the country with 3.33 sacks per game.
W&M’s offense has also performed well and ranks 26th nationally with 386.5 ypg. The unit has been outstanding in conference play and is averaging 442 ypg versus league opponents.
The Tribe has an open date this weekend but will return to action when it hosts No. 16 James Madison on Oct. 24 for Homecoming. The sold-out contest will be televised live by Comcast Sports Network Mid-Atlantic and New England.
