Williamsburg – Ret. SFC Michael Daniel Krueger went home to dance with the Angels on Tuesday, Mar. 24, 2009. He was born July 13, 1954, in Muskegon, Michigan. He was raised in Denbigh and Williamsburg, Virginia. At the age of seventeen, Mike joined the United States Marine Corps. After four years of service, he enlisted in the United States Army. In 1977, he met his wife while stationed in Germany. He retired in 1992, after proudly serving his country with great pride for twenty-one years. After retiring, Mike was employed by the Virginia Department of Transportation in Ashland and later in the Williamsburg Department. He left VDOT after ten years of service, after being diagnosed with cancer. His five year battle with cancer closed the last chapter of his life here on earth and opened his first in Heaven.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Ann D. Krueger. Mike is survived by his father, Daniel T. Krueger, of Easley, South Carolina; his loving wife of thirty-one years, Monika, of Williamsburg; daughter, Yvonne and her husband, Ryan Branner, of Ft. Drum, New York; son, Thomas and his wife, Jill, of Gloucester and his daughters, Tiffany and Julia, both of Williamsburg. Mike is also survived by his three adoring grandchildren, Hunter Krueger, Madisen Branner and Cody Krueger. “We will keep you in our hearts forever.”
A grave-side service where Mike will be laid to rest with full military honors, will be held at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, Mar. 31, 2009, in Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, Suffolk, with Maj. David J. Dormer officiating. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home by 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
