The students who are well at flu-stricken Walsingham Academy get a break today. Upper School Principal Peter Bender announced Thursday the Williamsburg private school would be closed Friday.
Custodians will be using the time to clean all public areas of the school, which has seen extreme absenteeism this week due to the flu. According to a note posted on the school’s Website, 110 students in the Upper School – more than one-third – were absent Thursday, and 80 – about 20 percent – were home sick in the Lower School.
Bender said he was hopeful the closure would give absent Upper School students the opportunity to make up missed work over the weekend.
In addition to classes being cancelled, all other student activities planned for the weekend are also cancelled.
