Get your excuse to leave work early ready: Buffalo Wild Wings Grill & Bar has signed a lease for a space near Barnes and Noble in the New Town courtyard.
The 5,500 square-foot restaurant will include an outdoor patio. Construction is scheduled to begin soon, with a late spring/early summer opening planned.
The upscale sports bar is known as much for its wings as its unofficial requirement to have fun. The chain’s website offers implausible excuses to miss work for wings, like “got assaulted by an angry chipmunk” and “the earth is spinning too fast today.”
Nathan Shor, whose Richmond-based Shor Realty handles New Town leasing, says interest in retail remains strong at the 365-acre, mixed-use development. Retail spaces, he says, are at 85 percent capacity and, he adds, his firm gets at least one call per week from people interested in opening a store.
There’s good news, too, in what’s not happening.
“As of January 30, I have no notifications of leases ending,” says Shor.
Buffalo Wild Wings won’t be the only new business at New Town. Shor says a locally owned wine store is finalizing a lease. That business will occupy a 2,000 square-foot space.
