Another meet, another win for the Jamestown High Eagles cross-country team.
Jamestown finished comfortably in front at the Nike Cross Nationals cross-country meet in Cary, NC on Saturday, featuring the best cross-country teams from 10 southeastern states.
Jamestown’s team score of 115 easily bested runner up Capital District’s score of 155.
Junior Colin Mearns posted the top Jamestown result, finishing 6th in covering the five-kilometer course in 15:26. Virginia AA state champion Andrew Colley finished one spot behind his teammate, finishing in 15:33.
Senior John Holt finished 18th, in 15:51. The team’s other two counters were brothers Graham and Joshua Schlickenmeyer.
The Jamestown boys now advance to the Nike Cross Nationals meet in Beaverton, OR this coming Saturday. The meet features the best high school cross country teams in the country.
Two weeks ago, Jamestown was ranked 11th in the country, but after comfortable wins at the state and regional level, its ranking has probably improved.
Coach Howard Townsend, a former varsity runner at the College of William and Mary, says this is a once-in-generation team he’s coaching this year.
