Williamsburg – Peter Gorczyk, 65, of Williamsburg, died Sunday, Sept. 28, 2008 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Peter was born in Framingham, Massachusetts on June 28, 1943, to Patricia (McCabe) Gorczyk and Frederick J. Gorczyk. His father’s career in the Navy led to many moves including Massachusetts, California, Virginia, and Paris. Peter graduated from Brookline (MA) High School before going on to Yale University and receiving a BA in History.
Peter began his career in finance at Mutual of New York and later earned a CFA designation. He married his wife Joan in 1968, and after living in New York City, moved to Summit, New Jersey. His career led them to Phoenix, Arizona after being named assistant treasurer of Southwest Forest Industries. Ten years later they returned to Summit where Peter worked for Home Life Insurance Co. and Bear Sterns. Upon his retirement, Joan and Peter moved to Williamsburg.
Peter was a true renaissance man, whose quick wit, capacious mind and resounding laugh will be missed by all. His numerous hobbies included woodworking, painting, gardening, and the writing and illustration of stories for his children and grandchild. He was devoted to his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Joan Gunderson; three sons, Andrew of Worthington, Ohio, Michael of Iwaki-shi, Japan, and John, his wife, Kristen, and their daughter, Katherine, of Concord, New Hampshire; mother, Patricia, and brother, John, both of Montpelier, Vermont; and many wonderful friends.
