Council Members to be Sworn In

Williamsburg City Council will meet at the Courthouse of 1770 tomorrow to swear in the council and elect the city’s mayor and vice mayor.

Mayor Jeanne Zeidler has served in that capacity since 1998. Only one newcomer – Judy Knudson – joins council tomorrow.

Three available seats were open in the May 6 city council election when Clyde Haulman and Paul Freiling were reelected and Knudson defeated former mayor Gil Granger, College of William and Mary student Matt Beato and Terrence Wehle for the final seat. Zeidler and Robert Braxton are halfway through their four-year council terms.

The Courthouse of 1770 is located on Duke of Gloucester Street across from the magazine. The swear-in ceremony begins at 11:45 a.m. followed by a short organizational meeting at noon during which the council will elect the mayor and vice mayor.
